Metallographic structure
Hastelloy B-2 has a face-centered cubic lattice structure. By controlling the content of iron and chromium at the minimum value, the processing brittleness was reduced and the precipitation of Ni4Mo phase was prevented at 700-870 C.
Technological Performance and Requirements
1. Hastelloy B-2 should be heated as fast as possible to the required temperature. The hot working temperature range is 1160 ~900 C.
2. The average grain size of Hastelloy B-2 alloy is closely related to the degree of deformation and the final forging temperature.
3. The adhesion of oxide, oxidation color and welding slag around the weld seam of Hastelloy B-2 alloy is stronger than that of stainless steel. Fine grain abrasive belt or fine grain grinding wheel is recommended for grinding.
4. Hastelloy B-2 alloy should be machined after annealing. Because of its high work hardening rate, it is advisable to use a lower cutting speed and a progressive knife than standard austenitic stainless steel with low alloy to cut into the surface of cold work hardening.
Characteristic
Hastelloy B-2 has excellent corrosion resistance to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures, as well as to reducing environments such as sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid and other non-oxidizing media. It can also resist pitting corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, edge and welding heat affected zone corrosion. Like Hastelloy B, Hastelloy B-2 is highly susceptible to oxidation and therefore cannot be used in environments containing iron or copper salts because these substances can cause corrosion rapidly.
